Better Together: TUNE and CAKE Align Under One Unified Affiliate Marketing Vision - Blog Post Announcement

The affiliate marketing industry is changing rapidly. That’s why I’m excited to share a change that we think is important to our customers as they grow.

We have brought together the TUNE and CAKE teams under a unified leadership team and strategic direction to better support you, our customers and partners. You’ll benefit from the best of both companies, now unified with the intention of a connected ecosystem for all businesses that rely on affiliate marketing tracking.

You may not know this, but TUNE and CAKE are both owned by the Perseus Operating Group, which is a part of Constellation Software Inc. (TSX: CSU). Constellation is known for buying best-in-class vertical marketing software, and TUNE and CAKE both live in the Affiliate Marketing Group. Up until recently, the businesses have operated independently; as time went on, we asked ourselves if that’s the best solution for our customers.

This change marks a significant step forward in delivering what matters most to you: trusted platforms, long-term product vision, and an ecosystem designed to solve today’s challenges and embrace the innovations of tomorrow.

Why This Matters to You

More Focus on Customer Needs

Our newly unified leadership brings together a combined 90 years of affiliate marketing expertise with one priority in mind: your growth. This isn’t just a change on paper. It’s a renewed investment in building smarter tools, more seamless integrations, and a community where affiliate marketers thrive. We work with fantastic advertisers, publishers, and networks across the ecosystem, and we love to accelerate their growth.

Stronger Product Vision with a Sharper Roadmap

With TUNE and CAKE working in tandem, we’re focusing our energy on the innovations that matter: performance, scalability, customization, and transparency. Our combined leadership is building a robust product roadmap driven by customer input and powered by the experienced teams behind two of the most trusted platforms in the industry.

New Energy, Same Commitment

Affiliate marketing has grown more complex. You need partners who understand what it takes to win in this space — not just today, but for the long haul. That’s where Constellation’s long-term, buy-and-hold philosophy matters. It means stability. It means confidence in your tools. And it means we’re not here to flip products; we’re here to build lasting solutions that evolve and scale with you.

What’s Changing (and What’s Not)

What’s Changing

The two most trusted platforms in the industry are now combined under a unified leadership team within the Affiliate Marketing Group of Constellation Software. This team represents some of the most tenured experts in the space, and they are focused on setting the strategic direction, product roadmap, and shared vision across the entire portfolio.

As President of Affiliate Marketing, I’ve asked Garth Harris, former General Manager of CAKE, to widen his focus to both companies as our Chief Operating Officer. In this new role, he will lead our product roadmaps, onboarding/client services, and thought leadership with marketing. Additionally, Karen Nugent, Vice President of Customer Success, will now be leading both TUNE and CAKE customer success teams. Karen and Garth have more than 40 years blended experience in the affiliate marketing industry and can offer strength to both teams.

The two products will retain their own engineering teams, with Bernard del Valle leading TUNE as Director of Engineering and David Wilson leading CAKE as Vice President of Product Development. Lastly, I have added Ksenia Loginova as our Manager of Finance to help us bring both businesses under a single strategic umbrella.

What’s Staying the Same

TUNE and CAKE will continue to offer their distinct platforms tailored to their unique customer bases. TUNE remains focused on its customizable platform for advertisers and program managers, while CAKE continues to support enterprise networks with scalable solutions and robust performance tracking.

Hear From the Team

I asked members of the new leadership team to share their thoughts on this milestone and what it means for our customers:

“Customers have been asking for greater collaboration between these two platforms, and we’re responding. This move is about clarity, consistency, and bringing more value to the people who rely on us every day.”
— Karen Nugent, Vice President of Customer Success

“We’re not just maintaining our platforms. We’re meeting with our customers and their partners. We’re having conversations about how we can work together to drive strategic value. And we’re actively building toward a smarter, more connected affiliate marketing ecosystem. That’s what this alignment is all about.”
— Garth Harris, Chief Operating Officer

What’s Next

Together, we’re bringing the best of both worlds to our customers and partners: TUNE’s precision and flexibility for advertisers, and CAKE’s depth of scalability and infrastructure, now aligned under one common vision. We can leverage the strengths of each team to address the biggest challenges in the market today and prepare you for the opportunities ahead.

Expect to see more unified messaging, more strategic product investments, and a stronger presence in the industry, from events and webinars to platform updates and customer roundtables. We’re here to serve the entire affiliate marketing ecosystem, from brand advertisers to global networks.

If you have questions, comments, or simply want to make an introduction, I invite you to reach out to me at any time: cynthia.sener@tune.com.

We’re thankful to have you with us.

Reintroducing TUNE Pay https://www.tune.com/blog/tune-introduces-payments/ https://www.tune.com/blog/tune-introduces-payments/#respond Tue, 03 Jun 2025 20:07:25 +0000 https://www.tune.com/?p=71356 Read More]]>

At TUNE, we know there’s nothing more fundamental to affiliate marketing than paying your partners.  Paying partners is something that should be seamless. Instead, the process is often plagued by additional costs, risk, and disagreements.  Partners are located all over the world with payment needs that are not easily met by most affiliate technology solutions.  Paying everyone on time with the correct amount per your own tracking and reconciliation can be an exercise in frustration not just for you, but also for your accounts payable team and your partners.  And that’s all before you see how much you’re getting charged by your bank and payment providers to make it all happen.

That’s why we introduced the affiliate world to TUNE Pay.  With TUNE Pay, you pay your partners via the same great technology platform you’re already using to track and manage your relationships.  And when you use TUNE Pay, you’re paying your partners through the most secure, flexible, and cost-effective payment processors on the market. You can optimize for process simplicity or customization — your choice. We encourage you to pay your way.

Many of the largest advertiser programs and networks are already using TUNE Pay to manage the balances, invoices, and payments for their partnerships. We’re confident it will work seamlessly in your world, too.

“TUNE Pay was a deciding factor in choosing TUNE as our affiliate technology partner. TUNE Pay makes generating invoices and paying partners simple, and on time! It streamlined payments from a manual, tedious process to an easy approval process with automatic payments. We also love the ability to customize payment amounts if needed.”

— Shari Mirkin, CFO, Trade Ideas

How will TUNE Pay make your life easier?

  • Pay using the best and latest technology.  TUNE Pay supports payments through both TransferWise and PayPal — best-in-class systems that reflect how partners expect to get paid in today’s market.
  • Pay anywhere in the world.  TUNE Pay supports payments to 50 different countries across 46 different currencies.
  • Pay cheaply.  TUNE Pay’s integrations offer the lowest payment fees on the market.  Save thousands of dollars each month that can go back into your program.
  • Pay your influencers.  Generate pre-payments and flat-rate payments for your influencers that still reconcile with your tracking data.
  • Reconcile in real time.  TUNE Pay syncs with your TUNE account to ensure that changes in tracking data are automatically reflected in invoices, saving your accounts payable team from hours of reconciling conversions.
  • Empower your partners.  Partners can check their balances, update their payment method, and pull new campaign data right within the same experience within TUNE.
  • Manage tax documents. Allow TUNE Pay to house and manage partner tax documents, including approval of W-9’s and 1099 distribution.
  • Control your payment experience.  TUNE Pay gives you full control over your invoices, including payout terms, custom templates, invoicing strategies, custom legal entities, and everything else you need to pay exactly the way you want.

If you’re running a network, TUNE Pay can also automatically generate your invoices to your advertising partners. It can even measure your cash flow to ensure that what you’re paying out to your partners is already covered by revenue you’ve received from your customers.

Screenshot of the TUNE Pay Payables Report
TUNE Pay tracks all of your conversions and payouts throughout the entire lifecycle, so you always know which partner is owed, how much commission they earned, when they need to be paid, and what conversions and actions they drove for your business.

“With TUNE Pay, our customers can focus their efforts on maximizing their program potential, rather than reconciling conversion data and managing invoicing processes,” says Cynthia Sener, President of TUNE. “Using TUNE Pay provides our customers and their partners with confidence that payments will be accurate and on time. And we’re able to do it at a fraction of the cost of other systems.”

Pay every partner the way they want, on a schedule that works for you.  Track partner balances dynamically and be confident that no conversion has fallen through the cracks.

Whether you are an advertiser who is looking for a hands-off process, or a network that requires flexibility and customization, you can select the TUNE Pay plan that best works for you.

TUNE Successfully Completes SOC 2 Type 2 and SOC 1 Type 2 Audits https://www.tune.com/blog/tune-completes-soc-2-type-2-and-soc-1-type-2-audits/ Mon, 07 Apr 2025 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.tune.com/?p=74974 Read More]]> TUNE SOC 2 and SOC 1 Certified
TUNE SOC 2 Type 2 Certification and SOC 1 Type 2 Certification

TUNE has completed another successful audit of its system and organization controls, assuring the availability, processing integrity, security, confidentiality, and privacy of customer data. This latest audit marks another year that TUNE has earned both SOC 2 Type 2 certification and SOC 1 Type 2 certification.

What Is a SOC 2 Audit?

SOC stands for System and Organization Controls, a suite of services provided as part of the reporting platform of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA).

Essentially, a SOC 2 audit examines and evaluates the operational controls of a business. This audit requires a company to document and adhere to comprehensive information security policies and procedures, among other responsibilities. The resulting report gives interested parties, such as prospects and customers, additional information and insight to make a decision about working with that business.  †

What Is a SOC 1 Audit?

SOC 1 audits focus on user entities, testing their relevant internal controls over financial reporting system design and operating effectiveness. We view SOC 1 audits and other periodic third-party reviews as a valuable resource to help enhance our current product and operations, especially when they address both the TUNE platform and TUNE Pay, our payments system.

What Is a Type 2 Report?

To earn a Type 2 report, a company must undergo testing over an extended period of time. Type 1 reports, on the other hand, test only a single moment in time. TUNE’s usual audit period for SOC 2 and SOC 1 covers 12 months, demonstrating our ongoing effort to uphold the Trust Services Principles

TUNE has always voluntarily pursued the more demanding and comprehensive Type 2 report rather than the Type 1 report. Type 2 reports for both audits signal that our customers can expect high standards across TUNE’s operational, data security, and privacy practices, as well as stringent change management controls throughout our software development life cycle.

Our Commitment to Our Customers

Using an independent third-party to audit these controls is an investment companies do not take lightly. A SOC audit is, by design, an intrusive, time-consuming process designed to test a company on a variety of levels, necessitating active employee engagement and diligence across a broad swath of the organization. It’s a difficult process with a valuable payoff for our customers, and therefore one we are proud to undertake.

As with our prior SOC audits, TUNE’s auditors determined that our controls were effectively designed and followed throughout the audit period. We intend to sustain our investments in customer-centric compliance in the years to come to protect both our business and the businesses of our customers.

Relevant portions of both reports are available upon request to security@tune.com for TUNE customers as well as prospects under a current non-disclosure agreement.

Blake Cantrell Joins TUNE as Vice President of Partnerships https://www.tune.com/blog/blake-cantrell-joins-tune-as-vice-president-of-partnerships/ Tue, 26 Mar 2024 15:25:43 +0000 https://www.tune.com/?p=74443 Read More]]> tune logo wide white background

Today I’m pleased to announce Blake Cantrell has joined TUNE as our new Vice President of Partnerships. Blake is an industry veteran, working at some of the most well-known companies in the space and interfacing directly with brands, publishers, and agencies alike. As part of his welcome to the team, I asked Blake a few questions about his new role and his outlook on the industry.

Blake Cantrell, Vice President of Partnerships at TUNE
Blake Cantrell, Vice President of Partnerships

Can you give us a rundown of your experience in the affiliate industry?

I have been active in the affiliate space since 2006 when I began my career at CJ Affiliate. While at CJ I managed a large team and high-revenue portfolio spanning multiple lines of business.

From there I jumped to Impact.com where I was a founding member and leader of the Channel Partnerships team. At Impact I created mutually beneficial, revenue generating partnerships with agency and tech partners alike. I was also able to build internal alignment across GTM teams, CS, Support, and more in order to create a frictionless partner path for all parties.

What led you to decide to join the TUNE team?

Throughout my interviews with the TUNE team it was clear that everyone I spoke to is eager to grow the business with a high level of integrity and a spirit of collaboration. It is extremely important to me on a personal and professional level that any work be done in a thoughtful manner while treating both internal and external partners with transparency, consistency, and equality. I believe that this approach aligns with the TUNE approach as well. Simply put … the willingness to be a good partner.

What will you be doing at TUNE?

In my role at TUNE I will be scaling up the marketplace offering. This will include product enhancements, recruiting and onboarding partners of all types as well as helping to facilitate partnership growth. It will also be essential to work closely with all internal teams to gather feedback, establish joint processes in order to serve our partners and have a shared understanding of where we are strong and where we can improve. This is a large undertaking but very exciting as TUNE is nimble enough to create a truly unique partner marketplace.

What are the biggest learnings you’re bringing to TUNE from your previous roles?

Listen to partners. They are always happy to tell you what they want and need. There is no need to guess or to have the most advanced tech or build AI in to every function. While highly advanced features are always exciting the majority of the players are dependent on easy to navigate and dependable tracking, reporting and payouts in order to build high growth partnerships.

How has affiliate marketing evolved since you started out?

When I began, affiliate was the Wild West. Trademark bidding rules were not in existence, cookie stuffing was rampant, and in many ways the entire industry was still figuring itself out. It is now 18 years since I started and the level of sophistication in technology and partnership types has advanced by light years. Brand-to-brand partnerships, the rise of influencers, sophisticated tracking and attribution have all changed the game for the better. That said, the core remains the same in that only mutually beneficial partnerships brokered by thoughtful players on all sides will be able to continue to push the industry forward.

How do you see the growth of influencers and creators changing the industry?

Content creators have been pegged as “the next big thing” in our space for the last five plus years but are just recently starting to make a significant impact across the industry as both the technology and understanding of how to work with this new partner type has evolved. Moving forward, I expect that there will be a day of reckoning as large brands see diminishing returns on massive influencer spends with relatively limited reporting outputs. Robust tracking and payment based on value is at the core of affiliate, and when applied to the influencer category could help provide additional insights, control, and value to brands while helping to expand reach and influence.

What’s the next big thing in affiliate marketing?

For better or worse, AI will be the next big thing in all of digital marketing. From content creation, analytics, marketing, and even creating company mission statements … AI will soon be pervasive. For even the casual observer who has played with ChatGPT it is easy to understand how AI could help shorten research times, automate a number of functions, and level-up the affiliate industry across the board.

That said, it is concerning that the transparent and creative partnerships that are currently brokered today by thoughtful players in the space could begin to look more like programmatic ad buys or other campaign-based strategies that are pay to play. Why is this concerning? Because it will stifle innovation. Some of the most powerful partnerships in this industry have and will continue to be brought about by intelligent people speaking to each other one-to-one. If AI can support those conversations without eliminating them, then I am all for it.

What’s the top challenge you see in affiliate marketing today?

The biggest challenge I continue to see is setting correct expectations for advertisers both big and small about how affiliate can add value. Many small and/or new-to-market programs with little brand equity expect to launch high-revenue programs by only using influencers. On the flip side, larger established brands are seeing the value of the affiliate channel being chiseled away by internal attribution tools. The last-click attribution model based on sales revenue only will never allow for a true read of the contribution of affiliate. Not only is a full-funnel strategy a requirement (both in the affiliate program and coordinated across all digital marketing teams), but so is a flexible, collaborative attribution method. Affiliate partnerships contribute in so many more ways than bottom-of-funnel sales that need to be tracked, recognized, and rewarded in order for brands to see the full value of the channel.

How can TUNE help the industry address this challenge?

TUNE is in a unique position to help guide brands on the best way to create meaningful partnerships based on their business needs. TUNE is not a massive, one-size-fits-all solution for partnerships like many of the players out there. Rather, TUNE is a nimble organization that is eagerly soliciting customer and partner feedback and continuing to iterate their product, process, and people practices in order to service ever-changing client needs

What are some of your immediate goals as you join the TUNE team?

I am extremely eager to do a deep dive on the product and existing partnerships, as this will help me to understand where to focus my efforts first. While I have some strong ideas about where to begin, I am eager to hear from the TUNE team and our partners directly about what they feel is needed to help elevate the TUNE Marketplace.

What gets you the most excited about the future of partner/affiliate marketing?

There is always something new around the corner that you can never predict, which keeps the industry exciting. A new advertiser vertical, a new promotional method, or even a small change from Google that completely upends all previous best practices. The challenge now is to not only navigate these external changes but do the best we can to try and drive the industry toward new best practices so that all players can benefit.

I’m excited to see how Blake can help supercharge TUNE’s partnership efforts in the coming months. His first opportunity to represent TUNE in the market will be at PI Live in Miami from April 16th through the 18th. You can reach out to Blake at blake.cantrell@tune.com to schedule time to meet with him and the TUNE team!

TUNE’s Platform and Payments Systems Earn SOC 2 Type II and SOC 1 Type II Certification

Affiliate marketers live and die by their data. Conversion details, credit card numbers, contact information — it all flows through the performance ecosystem, every second of every day.

At TUNE, we respect the responsibility that comes with this data. We also recognize how important it is to our customers to ensure it is accurate, secure, and confidential.

We are therefore pleased to announce TUNE has completed another successful audit of our system and organization controls, assuring the availability, processing integrity, security, confidentiality, and privacy of customer data. This latest audit marks the fifth consecutive year TUNE has earned SOC 2 Type II certification, and the third consecutive year TUNE has earned SOC 1 Type II certification.

SOC 2 Type II Certification Defined

SOC stands for System and Organization Controls, a suite of services provided as part of the American Institute of CPAs’ (AICPA) reporting platform.

In layman’s terms, SOC 2 audits examine and evaluate the operational controls of a business. They require a company to document and comply with comprehensive information security policies and procedures, among other responsibilities. The resulting report gives interested parties the information and insight needed to make a decision about working with that business.

From the AICPA website

“SOC 2 reports are intended to meet the needs of a broad range of users that need detailed information and assurance about the controls at a service organization relevant to security, availability, and processing integrity of the systems the service organization uses to process users’ data and the confidentiality and privacy of the information processed by these systems.”

AICPA

SOC 1 Type II Certification Defined

SOC 1 audits focus on user entities, testing their relevant internal controls over financial reporting system design and operating effectiveness. We see the feedback loop from periodic third-party reviews such as these, especially when they address both the TUNE platform and TUNE Pay, our payments system, as the best way to enhance our current product and operations.

To earn a Type II report, a company must undergo testing over an extended period of time. (Type I reports test only a single moment in time.) TUNE’s usual audit period for SOC 2 and SOC 1 covers 12 months, demonstrating our ongoing effort to uphold the Trust Services Principles

Starting with our first audit, we have always voluntarily pursued the more demanding and comprehensive Type II report, rather than the Type I report. Type II reports for both audits signal that our customers can expect high standards across TUNE’s operational, data security, and privacy practices, as well as stringent change management controls throughout our software development life cycle.

Our Commitment to Quality

Using an independent third-party to audit these controls is an investment companies do not take lightly. A SOC audit is, by its nature, an invasive, arduous process designed to compel a company on a variety of levels, requiring active employee engagement and diligence across a broad swath of the organization. It’s a process we are proud to undertake.

As with our prior SOC audits, TUNE’s auditors determined that our controls were effectively designed and followed throughout the audit period. We intend to sustain our investments in customer-centric compliance in the years to come.

Relevant portions of both reports are available upon request to security@tune.com for TUNE customers as well as prospects under a current non-disclosure agreement.

TUNE Receives Positive Reports for SOC 2 Type II and SOC 1 Type II Audits https://www.tune.com/blog/tune-receives-positive-reports-for-soc-2-type-ii-and-soc-1-type-ii-audits/ Fri, 12 Feb 2021 19:00:03 +0000 https://www.tune.com/?p=72080 Read More]]> SOC 2 Type II Certification graphic
SOC 2 Type II Certification graphic

Today, I’m proud to announce that TUNE has concluded successful audits for SOC 2 Type II certification and SOC 1 Type II certification, receiving positive reports for both.

This is the fourth year in a row TUNE has earned a clean bill of health in its SOC 2 Type II audit, which evaluates service organization controls relevant to security.  It’s the second consecutive year TUNE has completed a successful SOC 1 Type II audit, which tests the suitability of financial reporting system design and operating effectiveness.

What Is SOC?

SOC stands for System and Organization Controls, a component of the American Institute of CPAs’ (AICPA) reporting platform.  SOC audits for Service Organizations are intended to assure the security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy of customer data.

Use of an independent third-party audit to review privacy, security, and reporting controls is an investment that companies do not take lightly.  The audit process tests the sufficiency of a company’s procedures and execution on a variety of systems.  It also requires active employee engagement across a broad swath of the company.

SOC 2 audits are both technical and pragmatic; they require a company to document and comply with comprehensive information security policies and procedures.  SOC 1 audits focus on user entities, testing their relevant internal controls over financial reporting.  Positive reports for both audits signal that TUNE customers can expect high standards across TUNE’s data security and privacy practices as well as quality control from TUNE reporting.

Type I vs Type II Reports

Each audit period, TUNE has voluntarily pursued the more stringent and comprehensive Type II report rather than a Type I report.  Type II reports require a company to test its policies and procedures over a lengthy time period, whereas Type I reports test a single moment in time.

TUNE’s usual audit period for SOC 2 and SOC 1 covers 12 months, demonstrating our ongoing effort to uphold the Trust Services Principles

TUNE’s Commitment to Security

TUNE pursues SOC audits and other voluntary examinations to both improve our practices and demonstrate our commitment to provide trustworthy and transparent solutions for our customers, partners, and employees.  We view the feedback loop generated from periodic third-party reviews — including active dialogue with auditors — as the best means to improve forward-looking operations.

TUNE previously completed SOC 2 Type II audits covering periods of time in 20172018, and 2019, and a SOC 1 Type II audit in 2019. We intend to sustain our investments in a customer-centric compliance program in the years to come.

Relevant portions of both the SOC 2 Type II and SOC 1 Type II reports are available upon request to security@tune.com for TUNE customers as well as prospects under a non-disclosure commitment.
